Band Gaps in a Multiresonator Acoustic Metamaterial

چکیده
In this study, we investigated dispersion curves and the band gap structure of a multiresonator mass-in-mass lattice system. The unit cell of the lattice system consists of three separate masses connected by linear springs. It was demonstrated that the band gaps can be shifted by varying the spring constant and the magnitude of the internal masses. By using the conventional monatomic (single mass) lattice model as an equivalent system, the effective mass was found to become negative for frequencies in the band gaps. An attempt was made to represent the two-resonator mass-in-mass lattice with a microstructure continuum model. It was found that the microstructure continuum model can capture the dispersive behavior and band gap structure of the original two-resonator mass-inmass system. DOI: 10.1115/1.4000784

Enhancing the band gap of an active metamaterial
Metamaterials have been the subject of significant interest over the past decade due to their ability to produce novel acoustic behaviour beyond that seen in naturally occurring media. As well as their potential in acoustic cloaks and lenses, of particular interest is the appearance of band gaps which lead to very high levels of attenuation across the material within narrow frequency ranges. Un...

In the study, a retrieval approach is extended to determine the effective dynamic properties of a finite multilayered acoustic metamaterial based on the theoretical reflection and transmission analysis. The accuracy of the method is verified through a comparison of wave dispersion curve predictions from the homogeneous effective medium and the exact solution. A multiresonant design is then sugg...
متن کاملTransmission of Low-Frequency Acoustic Waves in Seawater Piping Systems with Periodical and Adjustable Helmholtz Resonator
The characteristics of acoustic wave transmitting in a metamaterial-type seawater piping system are studied. The metamaterial pipe, which consists of a uniform pipe with air-water chamber Helmholtz resonators (HRs) mounted periodically along its axial direction, could generate a wide band gap in the low-frequency range, rendering the propagation of low-frequency acoustic waves in the piping sys...
متن کاملMicrolattice Metamaterials for Tailoring Ultrasonic Transmission with Elastoacoustic Hybridization
Materials with designed microscale architectures, like microlattices, can achieve extreme mechanical properties. Most studies of microlattices focus on their quasistatic response, but their structural dimensions naturally prime them for ultrasonic applications. Here we report that microlattices constitute a class of acoustic metamaterials that exploit elastoacoustic hybridization to tailor ultr...

In this paper, a compact plasmonic metamaterial absorber for terahertz frequencies is proposed and simulated. The absorber is based on metamaterial graphene structures, and benefits from dynamically controllable properties of graphene. Through patterning graphene layers, plasmonic resonances are tailored to provide a dual band as well as an improved bandwidth absorption. Unit cell of the design...
